Basel, Switzerland
Afrinova had the unique pleasure to contribute to the public program for the prolific When We See Us exhibition, curated by Koyo Kouoh, Director and Chief Curator of the Zeitz MOCAA and curators Tandazani Dhlakama and Maja Wismer for Kunstmuseum Basel.
The dialogue series curated by Afrinova Director Keabetswe Boccomino makes the diverse perspectives of the Black and African diaspora in Switzerland visible.

Artworks and themes from the“When We See Us” exhibition are used to look beyond conventional notions of culture and identity. When We See Us brings together over 120 artists, introducing viewers to figurative painting by Black artists from Africa and the African Diaspora dating from the 1920s to the present.

Through the engaging dialogue sessions, we explore the power of storytelling through design, the function of art as a community practice, and the role of diasporic networks for care and advocacy.
Guest hosts Cherry-Ann Morgan, Kwaku Dapaah Opoku and, Marilyn Umurungi offer rich insights into the complexities of our shared community histories, identities, and knowledge.
We invited the public to directly connect and exchange with the multifaceted social contexts where black culture has, and continues to thrive and shape our society's collective experience.
